An Overview

The Fowler Museum explores art and artifacts from all around the world. Its collection spans 55 modern-day countries and multiple continents. For further analysis, we will divide the collection into subregions: the Americas, Africa, Asia and Oceania.

A fair amount of art is 5th century South American or 18th century Central African. However, we also have a substantial number of artworks missing a region as well.

The date/era of each artwork varies by region as well. As we can see in the visualization below, there are some relatively older piecees from the Americas, notably coastal Peru. North Africa has some older pieces as well, which are from Egypt. Besides these regions, most of the artworks date to the 15th century or later.
